About 7km Southeast Sapa centre, the mountain-surrounded 8 square km area consisting of approx. 200 engraved rocks of diverse sizes in Muong Hoa valley is a relic of the prehistoric Viet people. Since being discovered in 1925 by the French archaeologist Victor Goloubev, the mysterious carved rocks have drawn much atractions from numerous researchers and visitors from different countries. Among them, a Viet researcher named Nguyen Vu Tuan Anh, after tens of years of studying, shockingly claimed the rocks to be the Book of Changes passed down by the Viet ancestors to their descedants. However, no common understanding or official explanation has been obtained so far concerning the meaning of these mysterious engravings.
